Day 8: Logan Lake to Nanaimo, BC

So, finally headed to Vancouver Island! At heart I am first an Island girl, even my Dad was born on the Island :) But life has taken me away... but I try to come back each year.

Started the day in the mountains, had dinner with family in the Lower Mainland and then took the ferry over to the Island. I took the long way, first to Victoria then drove over the Malahat to Nanaimo. Another full day of travel and lots of smells of cedar and salt air...

Day 8 in Numbers:

Ferries taken: 1 - Spirit of Vancouver Island, one I worked may a shift on during my 8 years of working for BC Ferries

Bowls of Clam Chowder eaten: 0 - even though it is famous!

Observations:

The new #17 Hwy to the ferry is awesome, driving on the ferry still makes me nervous (and I never wear my seatbelt in case the car falls in the water and I need to get out of the car fast), Vancouver Island is so green it is almost freaky!

Big blue skies and fluffy clouds

Heading to Merritt

Mountain sage - picked some so my car smells nice!

Looks like they are watering dandelions, but whatever works!
Heading to the Coquihalla - a marvellous highway that gets snow 11 months a year!

My route :)

More mountains :)

Heading towards the Coast!

On the new #17 route to the Ferries!

Heading into the sunset!

View from the ferry!
