Rapid City, South Dakota to La Crosse, Wisconsin: Getting to know our neighbours day 5
A less visually stunning trip until the last 20 minutes as I got to Wisconsin and the basin of the Mississippi River. A didn't do the side trip to the badlands (next time) as I still had and have a lot of driving ahead of me :) From the distance they looked like a "must see" sight.
Stopped and had a great dinner a little walk away - fresh halibut! Then a walk by the River, chat with an older man about the joy of gifts and he reminisced about his father a bit. All in all another wonderful day, even if Minnesota is not exactly a State that is overwhelming - AND they have a slow speed limit of 70 miles per hour. (When I stopped at the gas station and asked if they had something typical Minnesota, the super nice young woman suggested a lottery ticket... was't exactly what I was looking for.
A special photo of a tug pushing barges along the River... a truly spectacular evening walk.

The day in numbers:
638: miles (yes a long day)
9: hours of driving on a more or less empty road
1: diner closed for Father's Day so I ate popcorn
5: large animal road kill on the side of the road (tax dollars could be used to treat these animals with more dignity)
1: new radio station on my favourites
3: States travelled through (South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin)
Observations:
Minnesota is not that interesting, but they have A LOT of wind turbines (which is cool) - they also have the WORST kept highways (they get better as you head East). South Dakota is POOR, like super poor and it made me sad on greater reflection.
The Mississippi River greatly attracts me - I will have to go on a long cruise one day. It is so large and powerful and yet is still a river that transports goods and provides jobs - even with its great beauty.
