Greater Montreal to Saint John New Brunswick: province #7 (and my new home)

Image
Sooooo... a few blogposts missed, but I am back! I headed to the 7th province on my list, on the East Coast of Canada. Saint John, New Brunswick is the oldest incorporated city in Canada and was founded by Loyalists fleeing from the US during the American Revolution. It is the only city on the Bay of Fundy (biggest tides in the world) and is home to a branch of the oldest anglophone university in Canada (also founded by the above Loyalists) the University of New Brunswick. I will begin my position in the College of Business there at the end of August... so I came for a visit to set things up for my big move! As I set out on the Friday before the two week general holiday in Quebec (construction weeks) it was BUSY driving... then it got peaceful in NB. The nine hours passed quickly and it was quite scenic... I recommend the drive to any of my family and friends who want to visit (after I find a home!). The day in numbers: 1: time zones crossed - now in Atlantic time which is 4

Looks beautiful right???? Well, actually it was the calm before the storm! Literally!!!! But... even the worst day driving is better than an average day flying.... Even if the rain felt like waves crashing against the side and we crawled along at 10 miles an hour... I have a video too! Now remember what I said about Wyoming's bad highways! The Gods were laughing, because they have nothing on the highways I passed over today!!! Oh my goodness, some parts looked like battlefields around Chicago - and the drivers are mental. Posted speed 55 - most people going at 70 - and some weaving in and out to gain a car length. Good thing I have so much UAE driving under my belt or I would have been stressed. Instead it felt like home again :) The day in numbers: 4: States visited (a record for this trip!) Wisconsin (loved it and plan to go back), Illinois (only to the airport and then to visit that fancy restaurant I promised my niece to take her when she is 21), Ind

A less visually stunning trip until the last 20 minutes as I got to Wisconsin and the basin of the Mississippi River. A didn't do the side trip to the badlands (next time) as I still had and have a lot of driving ahead of me :) From the distance they looked like a "must see" sight. Stopped and had a great dinner a little walk away - fresh halibut! Then a walk by the River, chat with an older man about the joy of gifts and he reminisced about his father a bit. All in all another wonderful day, even if Minnesota is not exactly a State that is overwhelming - AND they have a slow speed limit of 70 miles per hour. (When I stopped at the gas station and asked if they had something typical Minnesota, the super nice young woman suggested a lottery ticket... was't exactly what I was looking for. A special photo of a tug pushing barges along the River... a truly spectacular evening walk.  Mississippi River in La Crosse- a working river from past to future. The

Another busy day driving through three States and a long visit to Crow Country and the Little Big Horn Battlefield - met some nice people and chatted loads... also did a tour of the Battle Site with a member of the Crow Nation. It was so spectacular I will do a blog post just on that... but not tonight as I have another full day ahead of me tomorrow! The day in numbers: 12: deer and animals that look like deer in the fields and close to the fence on the I90 (a GORGEOUS highway) 3: States visited - Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota 386: miles in the car 6: hours driving 1: amount of times I wished I had not corrected a man who looked like he would fit into a Trump rally that Jesus was crucified on Mount Calvary not Mount Calgary (he was very forceful that he was right, I should have let him live with his beliefs, but I told him I was positive). At all times I was safe as it was a biggish group, but I kept my mouth shut after that. 4: hours with the sun roof open (no rain,
